Vivek Ranadivé once told the world that Kings guard Burry Hield was the next Stephen Curry, and after last night’s performance Hield can at least claim to be Curry’s equal in two aspects of the game – three-point makes and three-point makes in a loss.

In what was a tense and tight battle with the Boston Celtics, Hield dropped 41 points on a franchise record 11 three-pointers. Buddy did most of his damage in the third quarter, scoring 21 points on 8 of 10 from the field. The Kings lost by one point, but Hield’s performance put him in the record books for a number of reasons, and cemented him into an elite club. Hield is averaging 38 points on 58 percent shooting against Boston this season, who just so happen to be the team that passed on him when they had the No. 3 pick in the 2016 draft. At the time Boston badly needed a shooter, and Hield just so happened to be averaging 25 points on 50.1 percent shooting as a senior at Oklahoma. It seemed like a perfect match, but it wasn’t to be and the results have been some incredibly competitive performances against the team that slighted him.

Historic Note: Hield becomes only the eleventh player in NBA history, since 1984, to make 11 or more three-pointers in a single game. Zach LaVine actually became the tenth player to enter the club, just a few nights ago, as he went off for 49 points in a comeback win against the Orlando Magic. LaVine shot 17 of 28 from the field — including 13-of-17 on three-point shots. His impressive performance, places him in a truly elite club, consisting of just three players who have made 13 or more three-pointers in a game. The other two I hear you ask, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
